THE LAST SESSION OF HOLES!

Kia ora bloggers, For a while in my class we have been reading the awesome book Holes! It is so interesting and funny, I have really enjoyed it and my favourite characters are definitely Zero/ Hector and Stanley.

My favourite parts of the story are when they are walking up big thumb and when they find the suitcase and it says Stanley Yelnats on it so Stanley ends up getting all the money and sharing it with Zero.

If you have read this book before than you should comment below saying whether you liked it or not and what you rate it out of 10, Out of 10 I rate it 9 because it was one of my favourite books I have ever read.

Also our class is about to watch the movie so comment if you enjoyed that!
Goodbye!

Here is a picture of the book incase you´ve never read it before.
If you haven´t read it before and are about to than I hope you enjoy it.

Home learning (A picture paints a thousand words)

Kia ora bloggers, Today I am going to do a home learning activity based on this picture, Ignore  the part underneath the picture with the writing and math symbols.

This picture is significant because it has two sides to it, As if there are two different worlds, One with rainbows and nice green grass and trees, The other with smoke coming from factories with dead bushes.
I think what this photo represents is what the world is turning into, As in it used to all be nice with green everywhere and lots of nature, But now it is turning into a place with pollution and things and all the green life (Bushes, Trees, Grass) so it is kind of like a before and after photo.

I think that whoever created this picture has lots of smarts, Just with the way the have done it with the before and after thing. It is also raising awareness of air pollution and how the world is losing lots of its nice green grass and nature in general.

This picture truly is amazing and can be described in lots of ways, Do you like this picture? What do you think about it or what do you think it represents?

How to comemnt like a pro!

Kia ora bloggers, Today I am going to teach you how to comment like a pro! But before I start remember it´s about quality not quantity, Unless you can do both of course.

First of all, You want to be as positive as you can, Even if it means saying, THIS IS INCREDIBLE! or How did you do these awesome things! Because that makes the person feel really good about what they have done, Whether they made something or did an incredible blog post.

Next, You want to be thoughtful, WIth saying things like, This reminded me of the time when... or You taught me... because that makes them feel like they have done something for you, Because their bringing back a good memory or teaching you something important or just awesome.

After that, You want to a question or two, Or even three if you´re really curious about something. This is important because it can start a bloggersation, For those of you who don´t know what that is, It´s when you and another blogger or comment keep having conversations and commenting on each others blogs. Then you can get tones of awesome comments from that person.

And last but not least, You want to be helpful. But being helpful is not being mean it´s just giving them an improvement point, Because if no one used helpful phrases that person would never improve on what they need to and that wouldn't be good because they wouldn't be blogging at their full potential.

Incase you are still confused on how to comment like a pro, Here is one of my comments from today. It involves phrases that are Positive, Thoughtful, Have a question and a Helpful, So use it as an example.

................................................................................

Kia ora Benrick, I´m Thom from Yaldhurst Model School.
We´re also reading holes in my class and some of the activities we can do are really fun!
Actually speaking of fun activities today I did an awesome holes activity where I designed a shoe for Stanley or Zero. It was a shoe that could with stand lots of thing and was especially built for their long walk up big thumb, I was really proud of it because it looked awesome.

Anyway this is an incredible water truck, I can´t believe it only took you an hour! It would take me ages to make something than awesome, It sounds like the activities in your class are really fun and hard but it looks like you just mastered one, I give you an A+.

Why did you decide to choose this activity? Is it because you really like lego?

Personally I love lego but I´ve never been that good at making things out of it, I mean I have made some decent creations from it but not as good as this and even if they were as good it would´ve taken me about 10 times longer than you.

It´s great that you have been creative with the way you made this lego water truck, Because instead of just putting windows on a platform and then with wheels under it and calling it a water truck you have used some awesome windows on the back so that it looks like that part the holds the water and you have been incredibly creative!

Next time you should check if there are any mistakes in your title before you post it, Because there were a few in there, Also next time you could add more writing to it and say why you chose this activity and if you like lego or something.

Great job anyway, I loved the creativeness and awesomeness of this water truck.
Goodbye, From Thom.

Pie Corbett? Valerie Bloom?

Hello bloggers, Incase you don't know who these people are, They are famous poets. Recently in my class we have been doing a poetry workbook and doing a lot of things based on poetry. It has been really fun since we have got to read lots of awesome poems.

After we did lots of work based on these guess what we got to do... We got to write our own poems!
I know right, Awesome! Anyway we had to choose who our poem was inspired by, Valerie Bloom, Or Pie Corbett. I think they are both great but I chose Pie Corbett and based my poem on a poem he write called ´Playground Monster´. I chose this poem because it is very descriptive and uses lots of personification. My poem as called Ice, and obviously it is about Ice, its uses lots of description and I think it is quite good so I´ll show you. Here it is hope you enjoy:)

                                                                  Ice, By Thom.
Ice,Ice always nice unless you eat a slice.
Ice, Ice never warm, but you can always change it´s form.
Ice, Ice looks strong, But with too much weight, it won´t last long.
Ice, Ice, You can flee, but it won´t be long before it eats you for tea.
Ice, Ice, With its fellow friend snow, you can eat it, Just not when its yellow!

Ice, Ice always pure, Unless you mess with it, then it´ll make you pay for sure.

I really hoped you liked my poem, Thanks for looking at my blog!

Is Math an invention or discovery?

Well, Bloggers, I'll tell you soon but before that, What do you think math is, An invention or discovery, Or maybe even both. For this activity I had to make a brainstorm with other people thoughts, So I decided to do this with my family. All I did was make a google drawing and make a brainstorm on it, Hope you like it. I'll give you a clue, 80% of the family thought it was one of them.
Which was that it was a discovery and even though I said that I'm still not sure which one it is, It could be both.

We did a marathon!

Kia ora bloggers, Ever heard of Rod Dixon, Well if you haven't he was a person from NZ, Nelson who won the bronze medal at the 1983 NYC marathon. It is really cool since we're such a small country and yet we did super well in such a big thing.

So at our school we decided to do a marathon, Not all at once, but in different parts. So every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we would run 3 laps around our field, which is over a km. In the end it all added up to a whole marathon, so yesterday we did the final three laps of the marathon and all the people who don't do it were cheering us on.

Not everyone signed up for marathon because it may not sound like much just doing a bit over a km every second day but you actually need quite a bit of commitment to finish it. So I decided to do it because it sounded like a lot of fun and I like exercise.

In the end we got a medal each, which was really cool, and a certificate. You should try do some exercise too because it may sound all boring and that but if you put your mind to it you can have a lot of fun.

For those of you who haven't heard of Hastings it is a place in Hawkes bay, Hawkes bay consists of Napier and obviously Hastings. It was really fun there I got to play mini golf and go for a long bike ride. Visiting my Grandma was really fun because I hadn't seen here in ages.

On the way back we stopped in Wellington and stayed at the hotel Ibis which was really fancy. But we also got to have a walk around town and we got to see the Beehive, Here is a picture of me in front of it.
