3 safety airplane tips

For summer learning journey we had to watch two aeroplane safety videos and then write down three safety tips from the videos.

1.Inflate the life jacket when you have exited the plane

2.When the mask comes down put it on and then help people unable to put on the mask

3.Put on your seatbelt when the sign comes up

Summer learning journey

For task one of summer learning journey we had to pick a country and write about the capital of the country I chose is Germany. Berlin is the capital of Germany.  The population of Berlin is 3.72712 million people. In January the weather in berlin is usually 2 to -3. Berlin is in the north east of Germany. In Berlin they speak Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Polish, Kurdish, Vietnamese, Serbian, Croatian, Greek, German.

Pet day

Last week I blogged about the start of pet day but I didn't blog about the end of it and today I am going to blog about the end of pet day. After a few breaks and making the vegetable sculptures our animals had arrived, there were a cats, dogs, sheep, horses and guinea pigs. After looking at all the animals for a while and getting some food we had to take our pet to the place they were meant to go. I took mine to the big dogs because it is a big dog. When I got there I saw that there were a few obstacles that the dog would either jump on or jog around the cones. My dog was first to go and she jumped on the bench's and went around the cones. She had done it perfectly so we got a certificate. After all the animals had gone it was the end of the day and we could go home.

Pet day

Today my school are having a pet day. Today we bring one of our pets from home or if someone doesn't have a pet they would bring either a soft toy or a pet rock. The night before pet day we had to make either a sand saucer or vegetable sculpture. We are only at the start of pet day, and yet to come is bringing our pets to school and doing gumboot throwing, sack racing and seed moving.

link-ed

Today my class all went on a site called link-ed. We did this so that we could put work that we were proud of on link -ed so that we could show it to our parents. It took a while to put all the work on because we had to upload the picture of what we were proud of and then we had to write about it and why we were proud of it. I posted 4 maths things, 3 reading things and 2 writing things.

Hooked on books

This week my class had a hooked on books week. When we have a hooked on books week we read part of a book each day. On the first day we read a book called Liars, this was my favourite book we had read and it was really interesting. On the second day we read a book called laugh your head off 4 ever. We only read one of the funny stories from this but it was really funny. On the third day we read another book called goldfish boy. This book was very different from the others and I hadn´t read a book like it before. On the fourth day we read a book called spellbound. This book wasn´t my favourite but I still enjoyed it. Then today we are reading a book called cool nukes, which at the moment is interesting but strange.

I am really enjoying hooked on books week at the moment and I am excited to have another one.

Attitude

Today a person that works for Attitude called Tamatia came to our school. First he started talking about some funny stories from when he was a kid and then he talked about a embarrassing story from when he was a kid, which was funny because he had needed to go toilet but his teacher hadn´t let him go to the toilet because he had been chatting through assembly, so then he peed his pants, one of his friends saw that he had peed his pants and had yelled out  Tamatia peed his pants!  which made him more embarrassed because everyone was looking at him.

After that he talked about 4 different categories of personality. The first one was an Otter, If you are an Otter you are a person that is always doing funny things and is kind of like a class clown. Next is a Lion, If you are a Lion you are very good at leading the way. Next was a Golden retriever, If you were a golden retriever you were very kind and always put others before yourself. I thought I am half Otter and half Golden retriever

While he was talking about the different personalities he talked about some other funny stories one of them was about his friend. His principal had said they were going to have a friday funday, and said that they had to bring their togs. For the funday he brought firemen to Tamatiaś school and the firemen started spraying all the kids, but they had to stand quite far back because the hoses were so strong. But then Tamatia´s friend ran in front of the hoses. When he ran in front of the first it was so strong that it pushed him over. Tamatia came to his house a while later and his friend had a massive bruise because of the hose.

I had a really fun time and Tamatia was so funny.

reading test

Today I did a reading test. For this reading test there were lots of different texts (storys), I had to read a text and then answer different questions. We had about 45 minutes to do the test. I found some of the questions quite hard but also found some of the others hard. I took a while for me to do the test but I still found it fun. I think I did well on my reading test. If anyone has done a reading test recently please comment and say if you enjoyed it or not.

Prime numbers

For the past few days a have been learning what prime numbers are. To figure out what prime numbers are, you need a piece of paper that has numbers up to 100. To start off you need to cross a 1 then you cross out any multiples of 2, after that you cross out any multiple of 3, then since 4 was crossed out you can´t do multiples of 4 so you have to do multiples of 5. Then it keeps going like that. I found this quite easy because I have done lots of timetables. Here is a picture of the slide that I did the prime numbers on. What are you doing in Maths?

Novel study

For a few weeks my class have been doing a novel study. As one of the activities, I made a poster about antonyms. To make this stand out I coloured the corners and also used black for dark and yellow for light.  An antonym is a word with the opposite meaning of another word, for example, ´dark´ is the antonym of ´light.´ I liked making this poster partly because I like colouring and drawing. Sailing

On friday the 2nd my class Rimu went sailing. I also wrote a recount about it which is below.

Sailing.

On friday I had one of the most fun days of my life.

On friday Rimu class went sailing at Lake Rua.

After we had gone on the bus and we turned up at lake Rua I saw lots of boats and over to the right had been sailes.

Before we started sailing one of the helpers had talked us through how to build up the boat. They had taught us how to put the sail in the boat and how to put the sail up. Then he had taught us how to tie the rope into a hard not so the rope wouldnt go out of the hook. After the helper had taught us how to build up the boat we had had to pick a partner to build up the boat with, I had chosen Zack as my partner. It was fun building up the boat partly because we had to think of how to do some of it ourselves, we had to do this because there had been so much to remember and it was so hard to remember it all. After we had built the boats we got to have a snack while the helpers had been taking the boats to the other side of the lake. After we had had a snack we had had to walk to the otherside of the lake and go towards the boats. The first turns had been pretty easy because it hadn been that windy. On my second turn another boy called Jonathon had bumped into my boat and my boat had nearly capsized. After we had had about 2 turns each we had to walk back to the otherside of the lake to have some lunch.

Next after lunch we had gone to the otherside of the lake again to have more goes at sailing. That time the helpers had let four boats go at once. I knew it was going to be much harder that time because the wind was much more powerful than earlier. When I went my boat nearly capsized again. After I had gone about three times I watched one of my friends go, and just as he had been going well his boat had capsized. One of the helpers had had to go on their lifeguard boat and get him. After him there had been another boy thats boat had capsized, But when the helper came to get him in the lifeguard boat the motor from the boat had gone to close to his leg and he had gotten lots of scratches. He had had to go home.

After I had had about 12 turns we had had to go back onto the bus and go back to school.

Zack and I  had both said we had a great time !!!

Athlethics

A while ago I did a recount about athletics day. It was a bit tricky to put it all in past tense. But it was still fun writing about athletics. My goal for next time is to use more descriptive words and use similies and metaphors.

Blog commenting

Last week we started commenting on a school that we had never commented on before, the school is called Kawakawa, It is a small school right at the top of the North Island. The people in the class that we are commenting on have never done Tuhi Mai tuhi atu so we need to help them a bit when they comment. Because there aren't many people in their class and there are lots in our class each week we comment on two classes, so half the class comment on Te mahuri, which is a class at our school, and the other half of the class comment on Kawakawa. We do this so that Kawakawa don't get too many comments at once

I think it is good that we are commenting on a school we haven't commented before, because otherwise we are just commenting on the same school's lots.

Wearable arts

For two weeks of the last term and one week of this term my class have been doing wearable arts. At the moment we are still planning but next week we start making the costumes. Our groups had to choose a theme and we chose to do the future as our theme. It is really fun at the moment and I think it will be even more fun when we start making the costume.

Boy underwater

On Monday my class started a new book, It was called Boy under water. It is about a boy called Cymbeline Igloo, Yes his name is Cymbeline Igloo anyway he is a boy that has never ever been swimming but then at school he lies and says he is a really good swimmer so someone challenges him to a swimming race on the next Monday, but there is a problem his Mum doesn't want him to swim and she doesn't know that he is going to swim on that coming Monday.

I really enjoy this book and it sounds like a sad book but it is actually funny partly because his Mum is always making up terrible excuses so that he won't go in the pool. If you have read this book or you end up reading it please tell me if you enjoyed it.

Athletics

For some of this week and last week the seniors so year 5,6,7 and 8 have been helping the juniors with their athletics. To do this, we would have the different stations high jump, long jump, shot put, discus and sprints. The first time I did this I helped with the year 3s and 4s when they were doing high jump, and then the second time I did it which was today I helped the year 1s do sprints. I found this quite fun because I got to teach some of the juniors how to do high jump, and also sometimes when the juniors were rotating through the stations and there was nobody at either the sprints or high jump I got to do a few jumps on the high jump and a few sprints.

Ski day

A bit less than 2 weeks ago my school had our winter fun day. On winter fun day the year 1,2 and 3s go to the ice skating place and the year 4,5,6,7 and 8s go to mount Hutt to ski. Since I am in year 5
I went skiing. First I practised on the magic carpet for a while then I went onto the ski track opposite the magic carpet and practised on that for a while, then when my friend Zacks Dad came back he took me, Louis and Zack up to highway 72. I really like highway 72, it is my favourite ski track.
I really enjoyed the ski trip. Also on the way to the top of Mount Hutt, there is a rock called Rockie.

Flipsnack

On Monday my class found a new site called flipsnack. It is really helpful for making things like books because once you have created a few slides you can press make it a flipbook then it will look like a real book and then you can flip the pages by either pressing the arrow or pulling the page with your mouse. To get onto this site you just search up flipsnack and then click on the site. I found this really helpful and I think I will use it instead of google slide.

Ki-o-rahi

On Friday some of my class went to a Ki-o-Rahi tournament. Gilberthorpes, Hornby primary and South Hornby were the other schools that competed in the tournament. I enjoyed it but I was confused where the outline was because everyone kept on running way out of the circle that we were meant to be playing in. There were about 8 teams in the tournament. My team won two games drew one and lost one. If you don't know what Ki-o-Rahi is it is a game with a small ball, and the aim of the game is to try him the poles which are called po's and then bank the points that you scored by hitting the po's. If you are kioma you bank your points by getting a try and if you are tanipha you bank your points by throwing the ball at the tupue which is a barrel in the middle of the field which is being protected by two people on the other team. So Ki-o-Rahi is a confusing game but when you get the hang of it it is really fun.

Quick math

Today my class did a maths challenge. We had to watch a video that had people singing songs very fast with math equations in them. After listening to it twice we had to write all the equations down on a whiteboard and then figure it out. This was fun and hard, it was fun because we had to work together if we were working with a partner. It was hard because we had right all the questions down quick before the next one came up. These equations involved division, multiplication, subtraction and adding.
I found this very fun.

Maths investigation

On Tuesday my math group did an investigation called no 3 in a line. For this investigation I had to create a table on the Chromebook which is a big square with lot's of boxes in it, then I had to colour as many squares red as I could without getting three in a row. I found this easy because I didn't have to use any division, adding or subtracting but I did have to use times tables when I was doing 5 by 5 or 4 by 4, for the table that I was making on the Chromebook. This was one of the slides I did.

QwikQure

Last week my math group did a challenge called QwikQure. This is my slide and how I worked it out

To solve this problem I used times tables. So as it said on the slide Mr Morrison would finish his quicker than Rose. After I did this slide I did a challenge. This was very fun and I enjoyed doing it. 

Ice palace

This week my class have been reading a book called ice palace.
It was written by Robert Swindells and it was written in 1977.
First, we had to write two paragraphs about the main character called Ivan and the land that he lives on. Then we started reading the book. In the book, there is a person called starjik and he has wolves that he brings to the village each night and takes one child away and they are never seen again, Then Ivan's brother gets taken so Ivan goes looking for him. If you have read this book you could comment if you liked it.

Class trip to the landfill centre

On Wednesday my class went on a trip to the eco shop and landfill centre. First, we went into a room and someone taught us different mechanical parts in the landfill centre and how they work. Here are some things I learnt aluminium is not attracted to magnets and Christchurch dump can process 25 ton per hour and it takes Timaru dump 1 day to process 25 ton. After learning all of this we went back in the bus and drove towards another part of the dump. When we were on the bus there were boxes that had names on them like cardboard, plastic and glass and we had to remember at least three of them. After that, we went to the eco shop and we would pretend we had 500$ and we would buy stuff that we would use in an apartment. Then we went back to school.

Speeches

Last week my class wrote speeches. For my topic I did technology is making people lazy. First, we would do our speech in front of the class, then three people from each year group would go into the final to do it in front of the school. I got into the final. After we had done our speeches the judge would give out 1st, 2nd and 3rd certificates. I came 1st which I was happy about because I had worked hard on my speech. When I was doing my speech I didn't care too much about what position I was going to come because I had already done well getting into the final. It was hard to get lots of facts for my speech especially because my speech was about technology making people lazy.

Tiny houses

In my class for math week, we built tiny houses. The math involved with this was area and perimeter. for the area and perimeter, we had to count how many squares tall it was and how many squares wide then we had to times them by each other. This is me and my buddy's tiny house

When building this we there were things that were hard and things that we had to redo but then we managed to finish it and stick down all the furniture. We had to figure out how big some of the furniture was to make sure it wasn't too big so it could all fit in the house. It was good when some parts were hard so me and my buddy (Aliz'e) had to really think about what to do 

Art

For art this week my class had to choose a famous painting each and then draw or paint it. For my drawing I chose Son of man but I spent to long on my practice picture that I didn't get long to do the real one.

Algebra

This week my math group has been doing many different sorts of maths but I would like to talk about algebra

Here is an algebra question and I will explain how to do it

163+b=300 To figure this out you have to figure out what number b is. So the answer to this equation would be 137.

In my class for maths, we have been doing geometry for the last month and I learnt what a quadrilateral shape was. It is a shape with four sides or edges. So it is like a square or rectangle

My news report

FIFA world cup bringing unexpected results. Mexico beat Germany 1-0. Attacking on a counter Mexico score a goal and make it the only goal in the match. But Germany makes a comeback when they beat Sweden 2-1 after Toni Kroos’s astonishing free kick goal. Ten seconds until full-time Toni Kroos scored an amazing free kick. The crowd's jaws dropped when they saw this and many Sweden fans were in tears. Toni Kroos will have already been spotted in famous teams as he plays for worlds best international team Germany and one of the worlds best clubs Real Madrid. But Germany will be out of the world cup if South Korea beat them. Lots of soccer fans are saying that they don’t think that they will see Germany holding the world cup this year.”This world cup is upside down” said Diego Maradona. After Germany losing, Brazil tying, Argentina losing and Spain and Portugal tying Maradona may be right that it is upside down.

This week my math group have been doing weights, measurements and angles.We all made a copy of the normal slide so that we all had a google slides thing to ourselves.On each slide there was about three or four questions and on each slide there was a different topic of maths to awnser.For the measurement we had to show how many numbers there were on each line between the numbers that showed.For the weight we would have to figure out what object was the best to use for weighting another object.For angles we had to name what angle was which.

In my class this weeks Genre is to write a newspaper report.For this activity above I had to write a balanced report and a bias report.A balanced report is when the report doesn't take sides and conciders both points of view.Then a Bias report is when the report takes sides and doesn't give a fair representation of both sides of an argument.Thanks for reading

The honest truth

My eyes were burning as I had been staring at my shoes thinking if I should’ve stayed at home I thought for a moment why could’nt I just be a normal kid.I had been in that train for what felt like a week but had only been three hours.I had thought what would have happened if I had made it to the top of the mountain and then that was it the end of my life…

Beauw had his head sat on my legs at the time.I had picked him up and put him in the empty seat next then that word had started spinning around in my head EMPTY that seat should’ve been filled with my Dad I thought.Even though people thought jessie was my best friend my best friend was actually my Dad and sometimes it felt like it was just me and him sometimes it felt like he was my only friend.

My Mum had a very important job at the time so it was usually me him and bow.I loved my Mum of course but I just didn’t see her much.I had been sick since I was seven and now I’m eleven and I’m still sick.

I had only been on a trip once and that was to Australia and there I nearly got bitten by a venimos snake.As soon as I had put my head on my pillow the train stopped and my head had banged on the back of the chair infront of me Oww.

Hi i am Thom and this is my long write.I did this because we were reading a book in our class and then we had to do a long write about what we thought was going to happen next.I found this challenging because we had to make it like a recount but we also had to put it in first person which is words like I, me, myself and other words that mean yourself.My class got this book because it was book week and when it's book week we get a new book everyday and then the teacher reads the start of it so everyone gets a taste of what it's like and then it goes into our class library and someone can get it out for silent reading in our class.Thanks for reading.

Caterpillar Investagtion

In my class we did a caterpillar Investigation.What we had to do is start with any number and then times it by two then subtract 1 and then keep doing it in a patern.To do this I had to use 2 times tables.I  didn't find this challenging because I have done work like this in other classes so I know how it works and what I need to do.I found this activity very fun.I think my next step is to do this but with 9 times tables because I find that challenging

At yaldhurst in rimu 46 kids were asked to test this shoe for 3 weeks it is called the electroshoe 350.
The results were 75% thought they were great the other 15% didn’t really like them.If this shoe were
to be bought at a store it would cost 260$

This shoe is made of leather on the back and front of the shoe,gold on the sides of the shoe,
rubber on the soul and inner soul,silk on the inside.It also has electricity running through it.
This helps to give people a boost in athletics and sports.

it in 2008 and came out in 2009 that year the company was having a great year moneywise aswell

                             Why was this shoe designed

                      This shoe was designed for sports mainly long jump high jump and
cross country.These shoes are pretty much a cheat.But most people do not
think of them that way since they mostly want to.These designs were made in the 1950s and zack taylor
then found them and claimed that he created them.The first person to buy these shoes was
rich kid douglas henry who was one of the most selfish and bratty kids on the planet.
This shoe also comes with a electric cord to charge it when flat.

This shoe is made for athletics and sports.Nearly anyone who wears this shoe will become one of the
most sporty in their class.Also this shoe has sprigs that come out of it for sports like rugby and football
and also there is a button to press to make it the same style as a basketball shoe.

In my class over the last two weeks we have been learning how to write a Non Chronological report.
Mine is about a shoe.I have learnt that Non Chronological reports are very different to story and are
usually based on a animal or place.

In my class we have been reading a book called There's a boy in the girls bathroom.It is about a boy called bradley and his life and how it improves.After the teacher read the book to the class we had to do a series of activities and on this slide it has all the activities that I did.Check it out
