awesome embedded clauses

Kia ora bloggers, have you ever heard of Embedded clauses? Well if you haven't don't worry because today I am going to tell you what they are! So today in class we have been doing lots of different types of punctuation in different writing groups and in my group we did embedded clauses. At the start I didn't get it but then once I read the instructions I found it really easy.

So for Embedded clauses you go like this. Say there was a sentence that went like The boat which was sinking had a humongous hole if you write like that it is wrong, this is the right way to write it The boat, which was sinking, had a humongous hole. If you want to see more examples look at the canva I made below.

Awesome cycle safe!!!

Kia ora bloggers, today I am going to talk about the incredible time I had at cycle safe. So on the first day of cycle safe we just did some biking around the court and played some games like shrinking square and slow race. In shrinking square there are lots of people on the court and then the instructors stand on the outside and every now and then the come closer to us so that it would be harder because there would be less room to bike around. Then for slow race we just all had to bike to the end of the court as slow as we could, Zack won all three races though. We also did relays on the bike which was fun. We learnt that there is only one rule in the round about which is to give way to your right. We also learnt about the intersections because there were big drawing of chalk intersections on the court.

The second day (biking on the road)
After all the fun on the first day of cycle safe, we got to have another spectacular time but this time it was even better because we got to ride on the road. The day before we had learnt all about intersections so when we came up to the first one it was easy, but we still had to be really serious because we were on the road. We learnt that in an intersection the first person that can go is the person on the main road then person going straight next the person turning left and lastly the person turning right. It was really fun biking around the road because we got to go quite far down guys road and things. We went to three different intersections over all and it was so fun turning left and right and doing signals. Right at the end we had lots of questions that we had to answer, like what is the name of the church on school road (st lukes anglican) and what is the name of the horse float place (ezy tow) which was really fun.

Here are some photos from the awesome programe.

Home learning: managing money

Hi bloggers, for home learning this week I decided to do an activity called innovation. For this I have to think of a new subject and then explain why I think it should be taught in schools. So I decided that there should be a subject on managing money. I think that this is a good idea because everyone will grow up and have money one day so they will need to learn how to manage the money so that they don't just waste it on things they don't need and learn to use money wisely.

Here is a biteable that I made about how to manage money, hope you guys enjoy. But remember that life isn't all about money, it's about having fun!

Area & perimeter

Hi bloggers this is Thom, today I am going to tell you about what we have been doing in maths recently. So last week we started an exciting topic in maths called Area and Perimeter.  So to get the area of something you have to cut the shape into even shapes so if it were a square you would just halve it and then you figure out the length of two of the lines in that shape. After that you times them by each other and you do that for every shape, finally you add up all the numbers and that is you're area. When I was doing this I got a bit confused with one of the shapes but I kept going so I ended answering it.

Here is a photo from one of the slides.

Awesome Tuesdays

Hi bloggers, today I am going to tell you about the awesome project we do every Tuesday. So every Tuesday the year 7s and 8s go to manuel, so us year 5s and 6s do a project. Last term it was based on superheros and we did lots of fun activities, but this term we are doing be a detective! We started of with a few slides asking questions like; what makes a good detective, it was really fun because at one point we got to go in a group of two and think up some great ideas. Then we got some ink pads and sheets of paper and put our finger on the ink and then stamped it on the paper, it looked awesome because you could see all the little details on each finger. After doing all those fun activites we got to do something else really cool which was going on a site that had a case and you had to try and be a detective and figure it out. I only just started that though so I can't tell you much about it yet, but even though I only just started I still found it really interesting.

Thats all for today hope you guys enjoyed my blog post. Keep doing great blogging!!!

Packing squares

Yesterday my class started a challenge. What we had to do was get six counters and get lots of polygons using that amount of counters. A polygon is a shape that has no curves just straight lines for example a rectangle or square is a polygon but a circle isn't. Here is lots of polygons that I did using 6 counters.

After that we had to add another counter and do lots of polygons with 7 counters, here it is.

Home learning

This week for home learning I decided to do the activity when I try to make 44 in a way that I want to. I am going to try use lots of numbers

So this is my equation

4 squared times 2 plus 2 plus 2 * 5

Thank you I hope you found that equation interesting

My awesome toothpick project

Today in my class we started an activity called tooth pick squares. The first activity we did involved a pattern. It started with one square which had 4 toothpicks and then there was a second square that had 7 toothpicks when added with the first and then it went on, but we had to try and get it to 9 and figure out how many toothpicks it would take here is an example.
